mondeal connection

I am trying to update the firmware on a mondeal 7500 but i notice the the serial conector on the back is of the female variaty , when i try to connect using my normal com port lead , i can't connect to STB .

do i still use a null modem with some kind of gender bender or should it connect using the normal lead ?
