Mounting a Dreambox to Win XP sp2 (no hdd in dream)?

I've been reading through all the posts, and could someone please explain to me a simple step by step way how to mount my DM7000s to my PC (Win XP sp2).

Do i need software running on my PC?

I've been trying all day. Using the menus in the Dreambox, but no luck so far.
I'm using the lastest Hydra image.

My main objective is to play mp3's via the pc and to record movies.

The ip of my Dream is 192.168.0.24 and the ip of my PC is 192.168.0.1.

Even if there is a thread you could point me too, although i've read most of them.

I'm trying to do it via cifs.

Guys, I've got CIF working on my setup. You need to create a 'share' on your windows pc, but no other software is required.

Then you just go into the dream and set it up under the "Expert Settings" and "Communications Setup" menu. Press the blue button for "Mounts" and put the details in there.

IP address: The IP of your Windows PC
Dir: the name of the share you created
LocalDir: /mnt
Options: either ro or rw
Extra: just leave this how it defaults
User: Your Windows PC user name
Password: Your Windows PC password for that user name

Then select Auto-Mount and save it (yellow button), then you should get a message confirming it has been mounted. If you get an error, then the details are incorrect or you haven't created your share correctly on the Windows PC.

PS - I have a hdd mounted, so I don't record to my pc, but this works for me to view jpg images and play mp3's.

I wrote this for our North American forum. It might help.

Be careful when using XP SP2, you will have to create an exception in the firewall, or even disable the firewall all together.

I've updated the guide to accomodate XP Home users. Since it's not easy to disable simple file sharing mode in Home edition, I have provided instructions on using the command line tool "CACLS.EXE" to issue NTFS permissions in Home from the command prompt. You can use CACLS.EXE in Pro as well

Hi Max Gen,
Great tutorial, you might want to add a piece about simple file sharing.

I was using Win XP Pro and could not set the permissions, which was why it would not work.
Need to go to Control panel, Folder options, View Tab
Then de-select Use Simple File Sharing.

This is only necessary when you are not on a Domain, ie a workgroup.

Thanks a lot for that tip. All my PC's are on a domain in the house. I hadn't thought of that issue. I'll disjoin one of the PC's tonight so that I can get some screenshots to update the doc.

Is there any way to do this the other way round?

I am trying to mount the hard disk in my dreambox on the pc so I can access it with windows applications.

I'm trying to avoid using ftp as I doon't actually want to have to transfer everything to the pc first, and using samba it doesn't support files over 2Gb ..
