Jaycar Mk11 mod/ fix

Here is the mod/fix for the Mk11 programmer, it will allow you to use just about any of the software out there.

Thanks to hobbit and nexus for this information.

JAYCAR MK11 MOD/FIX

I cut the track between pins 13 and 14 on IC3 so pins 12 and 13 can be used.

Next, looking at fig. 2 in the instructions you want the side of the card connect switch that goes to the 10k resistor. It also goes back under the smart card socket where it forks. One fork goes to a link and the other goes to the mode select switch. I cut the fork that goes to the switch.

Now solder a wire from pin 13 of IC3 to the card socket side of the cut track. Then solder a wire from pin 12 of IC3 to the mode select switch side of the cut track.

This attached pic should make things clear :-))

The red lines are the track cuts and the purple lines are the new connections. If you come from "the bigger the blob the better the job" school of soldering, then you may have to remove some solder between pins 13 and 14 on IC3 to make the track easier to cut. The rest should be straight forward.

NB-I have done this mod/fix myself and it works fine, but be warned this is undertaken at ones own risk.

Thumbs up

Mod works fine and now behaves like the Jaycar KC5342 kit, a standard Phoenix programmer,

Thanks

No change in programming the pic.

The mod only inverts the card insert notification to work the same way as an old phoenix does when programming the eprom.

The only software that I have used, that checks to see if a card was inserted, was intended for GSM SIM cards.

However, since I have done the mod, I have never noticed a bad read or write! (operator error excluded)

johnk,
Mate the programmer didn't ruin your Goldie, you did, and you would never ruin it by simply trying to read.

One Switch and 2 jumpers.........and enough information on these forums to tell you how to set them up too.......

This has all been said before.....If you have a set of working details from your legit sub, then you would not get into trouble, if you were trying to read off a sellers proctected goldie then you take a risk.........but remember guys, the days of the present wafers is nearly at an end anyway, so if you don't have a sub, your gonna end up with nothing soon.............

The risk with these things are considerable reduced by reading up on what to do first.........this hobby has never been a 'perfect' science, it doesn't alwasys work like a 'shop bought one'. Sometimes it requires some thinking too.
