Vinasat - first Vietnam satellite
The satellite named Vinasat on 135 East will provide telephone, radio and television services to all corners of Vietnam without topographical interference. It weighs 2.2 tons, and has a life-span of 15-20 years. The launch of Vietnam's first satellite which is scheduled to become operational late 2005.
Nine companies from the United States, Japan and Europe will bid for the construction and launch of Vietnam's first satellite which is scheduled to become operational late 2005.
The bid valued at 250 million US dollars will mainly comprise launching the communication satellite, building a ground control center, transferring technology and buying insurance, according tolocal newspaper Youth.
The medium-sized satellite will span its coverage over Vietnam,Southeast Asian countries, and some eastern Asian countries including Japan and South Korea. The country now has to hire satellite services of foreign companies from Thailand, Indonesia and Russia, paying them some 10 million US dollars annually.
Vietnam has registered for the satellite to operate at 135 degrees east longitude, and on the 120 kilometers square-equatorial plane.
