Irdeto Access is a world-leading provider of content protection solutions and a subsidiary of MIH Ltd. (Nasdaq:MIHL - News), the subscriber platforms group.
Irdeto CypherCast V.2. offers a wealth of new business opportunities and allows full integration with the large-scale Irdeto PIsys conditional access system and the Irdeto GigaCrypt card. To users, this means that multiple encryption units can now be controlled from a single encryption manager.
The new enterprise GUI has a highly flexible interface enabling operators to address end users as per the network configuration. The decryptor porting kit allows Irdeto CypherCast to be easily ported into any IP receiver regardless of its operating system.
Additional security features have been added, including the two-way encryption and 128-bit encryption. The new advanced AES Rijndael encryption algorithm has also been implemented to enhance the security of the CA system.
The original Irdeto CypherCast system is the IP extension of Irdeto Access' globally deployed content protection technology that is used by major media operators to protect content delivered to more than 8 million subscribers. The system secures both unicast and multicast IP data that travels over any broadband network.
In addition, Irdeto CypherCast can be used in combination with any streaming application such as video and data streaming. Typical applications include distance learning, corporate training/business TV, data caching, and entertainment services.
New Irdeto PIsys Features
In addition to the launch of CypherCast V.2., Irdeto Access has also added new features to Irdeto PIsys, the powerful conditional access system for large operators of both DVB and IP platforms. The enhanced features include:
Dual Decode: Allows an operator to offer special subscriptions for subscribers using a dual decode STB, with the second decoder controlled from the head-end. Paid subscribers can watch different channels on multiple TV sets in the home, all from one STB.
Chinese GUI: Full translation of the Irdeto PIsys system into Mandarin Chinese, further showing Irdeto Access' success and commitment in the China market.
Schedule Editor: A standalone application for the creation and editing of EPG and CA schedules.
24 Transport Stream Support: Further expansion of the system's ability to serve large operators.
OPPV: Implementation of SMS commands and product types for Ordered Pay Per View.
Smart Card/STB Marriage Control: offering comprehensive management of the Smart Card/STB feature from the head-end.
Developed for satellite DTH, cable, and terrestrial broadcasting operations, Irdeto PIsys can be deployed as a convergent head-end to manage both TV and IP content in combination with Irdeto CypherCast. Irdeto PIsys is easily integrated with any SMS or customer care and billing system.
The enhanced Irdeto PIsys will be demonstrated at IBC 2002 together with a subscriber management system.
