B1 Dead

Optus B1 has stopped transmission as of about 2 hours ago. Apparently this is due to the satellite having gone off arc. Optus are working at restoring its position and hope to have it fixed in the next couple of hours. Here's hoping...

so far apsat is reporting the backup scp has failed...so this is not looking good, the options dont look good. posibly moving b3, and that will cause alot of grief elsewhere

If its not the park orbit and is the SCP or they cant get it back in orbit, thats about 600000 pissed off kiwi sky subscribers all wanting a refund!

Was told by an operator that they were moving it slightly (bit of house keeping) and it took off. May not be coming back............

Maybe those 600000 pissed off kiwis should use B3 for Divine Intervention,at least it's FTA,Or blame that Apprentice for playing around with the joystick in the control room.

A spokesperson for Sky says the Optus B satellite which sits above New Zealand and Australia has suffered an outage after a routine repositioning manouevre of the Optus B1 satelite went wrong.

He says Optus has advised it will take approximately three hours to fix the problem.

Sky channels have been off the air since about 7pm Thursday night.

Sky TV says it apologises to its viewers, and is posting updates on the outage on the its website www.skytv.co.nz.

The sat is back in the slot but is apparently off yaw slightly, causing some loss of signal strength (here at least).
Dont know how much fuel they used getting it back but I think it is safe to say its life expectancy just got a whole lot shorter........... Not sure when services will start resuming.
