A spokesperson for Sky says the Optus B satellite which sits above New Zealand and Australia has suffered an outage after a routine repositioning manouevre of the Optus B1 satelite went wrong.
He says Optus has advised it will take approximately three hours to fix the problem.
Sky channels have been off the air since about 7pm Thursday night.
Sky TV says it apologises to its viewers, and is posting updates on the outage on the its website
