Scientific Atlanta/PowerVu Receiver - AFN

Hey all,

I bought what somebody told me was an active Scientific Atlanta/PowerVu satellite receiver last week, by being active I mean it would be able to get AFN (American Forces Network) until the time the subscription runs out - seems that I have been conned as it never turned up (yes it was someone on this website)..........I will get some of my money back as I used paypal but not all of it........

SO - this means I am desperate for an active AFN (American Forces Network) satellite receiver..........if anyone knows of anyone who might be able to help then I would be very greatful if you could help..........most likely it would be somebody in the military but I know of no one and I have had no luck looking for US military forums for Europe, etc...

My email address is -
nick@nickbrace.com

Thanks alot to you all.

Nick

Just out of curiousity, how much did you pay for the receiver? If the price is right, I may be in the market for one.

Hey buddy - I paid £225 for 3 receivers......one of which had 2 1/2 years left on subscription - BUT..............dont forget I got ripped off so this isnt really a valid price, hehe...

No idea how much but I know some guys who have got them under £100 on other sites, etc.

Good luck!

Grrrr. My upper limit is about 80 USD. Sorry to bother you. Good luck though, I'm sure you'll be able to get them sold and recoup your money.

I'm sure you already know it but.... The receivers must be registered by AAFES into a database and they can then be activated online. If a receiver is disconnected for about two days then it resets itself and has to be reactivated online. To do that, you must have the original registration information. If you can work that issue, you shouldn't have any problems keeping the system active.

After talking with 2 engineers to fit these satellite receivers/dishes, etc here in UK for the USAF I have learnt that the info you gave above is inaccurate - though I would tell you! You mentioned the the receivers would be reset if off for 2 days - although there may well be a reset mechanism after a certain amount of time its not 2 days - both installers tell me they have had machines turned off and working 2 weeks later.

Thought I would share the info with ya!

Thanks for the word. Two notes though: 1. I was speaking from experience, not from the viewpoint of an expert, sorry if my mis-information caused you distress. 2. I mentioned in my post that the receiver was disconnected, not just turned off. This is vital. Turned off, the receiver retains memory and *may* check the satellite signal from time to time. Disconnected, either from power or the LNB, there's no way to check the satellite signal for key updates.
