Dish Install Question

I currently have an Austar dish, i am not sure of the size and technical name of this dish, but its the standard one that comes with subscription

Anyway, I am moving houses soon and was wondering if i take my dish to my new house how hard would it be to install it by myself on my new roof?

Could it be done my hit and miss moving the dish to the right angle of the sat or is this really hard and could only be done by an austar technican or someone with the right tools?

If it's an Austar dish then why not just get them to move it and set it up for you?????????????????

Ben, you could move the dish yourself however the company owns the equipment. I am not sure what the cost of the move is. The point is that they will move the dish and re-install the wall points as well.... Think about it..... Oh yeah, they will do it in less time than you can think about it.... I use a mechanic when my car won't go.....

What happens when there are no mechanics around, and you have to pay $ for something you could do your self.

You missing the point i wanted to know how difficult it would be, I wont learn anything letting Austar do everything. You never learn letting someone else do your homework.

I admit somethings have to be done by an expert, however this may not have to be one of them

Ben - you are missing the point. The equipment isn't yours to move, play with or touch up. Let the provider move it and get up on the roof with the installer and watch, learn and ask questions.

What happens when you try to move it yourself and you can't find a signal or stuff it up, then they gunna be asking questions why!

What happens when you tell them you've shifted address and they ask to book in an installer to move it for you!

What happens if you have an accident doing something you shouldn't be doing!

All I'm saying is for sure you want to learn but the best way is to learn of someone who knows what he's doing isn't it!

just take the dish and try your luck. You might get lucky and find the sat or maybe you wont get lucky. you`ll never know if you dont give it a go.
Good luck.

That tells me that you've never done it before and haven't got a clue what to do - correct?

Have another read of my 2 posts little boy and look and learn!

I told you originally that it wasn't yours to move, but by all means get up there and do it yourself and if you get zapped or fall off the roof I bet I know who the first person you ring is - your solicitor for suing Austar!

Then I tell you if you didn't like that idea of letting them do their own work, to get up there and watch the installer do it and look and learn and ask questions - how bloody hard is that?

Now you say all you are asking is for tips - here's a tip - instead of bagging responses to your laziness, get off ya ass and do sumpin about it instead of being a smart ass!

You put the dish up.
You find the bird.
You tune it in.
You make sure the quality is good.
You get the pictures.
You are now an installer - well done!

Ben, If you want to move your dish yourself, well and good. However as I have stated before, YOU do not own the equipment. Hence any damage you do, you are legally responsible for. On the other hand, you can buy a dish, cable, connectors, wallplate etc and try and install it yourself. One minor point, if you do all of the above and screw the box, YOU are responsible for the damage. I am not being negative in my replies to you. Ok down to the fun part. Depending on where you are in this country or any others that can see the Bird. 1. Know how to find the bird.. ie. azmith and elevation. 2. you can buy a sat meter for about $50 ( you get what you pay for, mine is worth about 3 grand ) 3. you will need the tools to connect the cables together, more expense. 4. B3 and Pas 8 on this side of the country are very close together. A touch and a nudge will get yoou the wrong bird. After all that time and money and a lot of swearing, if not a fall of the roof, you might get it all back again. ( oh yeah don't forget the fine tuning of the LNB) Hope it all goes well for you. You can then buy a van and all the right gear and become a Fox installer....... Regards
