Question PC Decoding

I use a program to decode foxtel cable directly on my PC via a tv card (by passes the set top box compleetly- dirrect from the cable jack). Does anyone know if this has been tried from satelight service using a frequency down-converter?

It wouldn't work now due to the different encryption system . Wonder if it will work when Sat goes NDS ?

The encryption system would be different from the cable, but I just wonderd if anyone knew of someone trying to decode the sat. stream dirrectly on a PC, with another programe, rather then using the decoder box and cards?

Although not quite the same, decryption and viewing of Irdeto encrypted satellite signals on a PC has been around for some time.
Just as you use a tuner card for the analog cable system, you can get digital satellite tuner cards - coupled with a smartcard emulating program you can have decrypted Foxtel/Austar pictures on your PC.
