Lightbulb Why is Foxtel one of the most expensive providers in the world

Dont foxtel realise that if they reduce the prices to a reasonable level.....like about half of what they are currently charging that they would get probably 4 times the number of subscribers that they can currently get

was just looking at the ASTRO providers in Malaysia...and they approximatly charge half of what foxtel do.

Wake up Foxtel.....and do some proper market research......the only way your profits will increase is by getting more subscribers....charging more will only cause people to drop their subs

Having been to Malaysia several times I can tell you that the average wage and living conditions for the majority of Malaysians are way way below the lowest income bracket here. Whereas the majority of Aussies can afford foxs overpriced repeats, the majority of Malaysians cant afford diddly squat in non essentials, hence their cheaper service aimed at a minority who can afford something.

i dont think the cost of living should have a lot to do with it......it still costs the same to beam the channels around....and the cost of equipment would be the same..........its the profit margin on each sub that would be the differnce.

The point of my discussion wasnt the cost of living but the market penstration due to the high prices.......if they charged less....then more people would take it up........sure its less profit per sub....but probably more profit in total

true, if they dropped their prices then they would get a lot of new customers and get a lot of their old ones who dumped them back. What I was getting at is most Malays dont have the spare income to afford pay tv at any price, most of them just manage to scratch out a living.
