New NFS server plugin

Hi everyone,

I wrote an NFS server plugin for ruDream. The main purpose of this plugin is to share a hard disk between two dreamboxes but you can make many other uses of this (linux file server, and so on).

If you test it, please report any problem you encounter here.

I just was looking for a NFS sever for the DB. Can you please tell where to find your plugin? Thanks

If you have ruDream you can download it from the addon update menu.
If you don't I can give you the file, but I don't think the install script will work with images that don't have the ruDream script service.

100% right, sorry.

I've installed the plugin on my production DB, which has a 1.07.3 ruDream, sharing its files to my test Dreambox, that has the most recent ruDream, 1.07.4 based - So far, so good. I think it gonna be much useful in my setup.

Since I've installed the plugin also in the test machine (the NFS client in my diagram) I noted that now the Shutdown function from the Main Menu does not lead any longer to the intermediate menu for choosing the shutdown method. I appreciated that very much since I installed the latest ruDream, but now, installing the NFS server plugin, I've lost this useful option: i.e the Shutdown just quits the DB and never prompts with the additional menu. How can I add it back ?

I don't have this behaviour with the latest ruDream.

It's good to hear that it works. I made this plugin for someone of my family who has ordered a second dreambox but don't have it already.
As I have only one dreambox i couldn't make a lot of testing and wasn't sure it is working for sharing harddisk.

I don't have this problem at all. Everything works perfect and normal.

I suggest you do a Flash Erase and start again.

Actually, after a couple of further reboots, quite not-unbelievably, the shutdown function got back to normal. I'll eventually do that to be more sure.

I have a further problem with root permissions of the exported filesystem.
Which option should I correctly pass in /hdd/opt/nfs/etc/exports to let the client access files as root?

Hello.

no_root_squash was the option to use, as everybody recalls :-)

I'm using intensively with time-shifting, and it seems to be quite reliable with one client attached. I'll try to test it with more concurrent clients to see performances and reliability on the server.

Also perhaps to add in nfs.sh

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH /hdd/opt/local/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH

to allow the nfs.sh to run from the user shell env.
