USB wifi plugin v1.2

So... there's a new USB wifi plugin again!
Note that this is the freeware version... it's the upgrade of version v1.1 which is available in The Hydra and PLi-images.

What's new?

- a signal strenght, noise measurement and so on.
- support for an adhoc connection. That's a peer-to-peer connection without a router. Nice for testing...
- after stopping the wifi interface you don't need to start the plugin twice. Thus, a bug fix.
- the buttons are a bit changed. "Save" is to save the settings but the plugin will not quit. So you can check your link status directly. Use "exit" to quit the plugin (after saving if you want to preserve the settings).

These adapters are supported:

{PRISM_USB_DEVICE(0x04bb, 0x0922, "IOData AirPort WN-B11/USBS")},
{PRISM_USB_DEVICE(0x07aa, 0x0012, "Corega Wireless LAN USB Stick-11")},

Maybe also others, but not tested.

Like always thanks to Lololuy for the Linux-drivers, Rongogo for being the tester of the year (see also the "about" button ) and myself for drinking beer while making this plugin.

The plugin is for 1.08 images and tested on The Hydra Zeus and the latest PLi image.

How to install:
Unzip the zip file and store the files on the dreambox. The files are already in directories like var and var/plugins so that's not too difficult.

The plugin will be available soon for The Hydra, PLi and DBF-image, I hope.
Attached Files
File Type: zip wifi1.2.zip (94.6 KB, 457 views)

Hi. thansk for this nice plug in.
I just buy a MA111 to do some testing and I can't make it work. Surely I forget something.

MA111 is working nicel y on my windwosXP, so hardware is OK.

Installed through hydra c panel
# Configuration created by wifi plugin
wifi_on=1
wep=0
authtype=opensystem
ssid=maison
wep0=00:00:00:00:00
ip=192.168.1.10
nm=255.255.255.0
gw=192.168.1.1
dns=192.168.1.1

telnet and :

/var/wifi > ./wifistart.sh
Using /var/wifi/p80211.ko
Using /var/wifi/prism2_usb.ko
The wifi interface does not respond...
Please check if USB wifi is correctly inserted,
that the wifi modules are loaded (p80211.ko and prism2_usb.ko)
and the iface parameter is set accordingly.

I also tested by removing the standard network and rebooting. Nothing appeared on my router stats, and my Wifi PCI card from the PC 192.168.1.1 appears immediatly there.

Of course the USB wifi plugin is there.

any idea or tests to proceed ?

Hi klona_klona,

Is it MA111 v1 or v2? Got reports that v2 are not working. This is because they're using a different chipsets and are thus not working with those drivers.

More infos here: New wifi modules
(v1 is on the left and v2 on the right).

Support for newer Wifi USB Stick Adapter /chipsets

Hi aDF2000,

Having an USB Stick Wifi Adapter would be excellent. Based on your Wifi Plugin 1.2 compatibilitylist, I have been looking around to see which USB Stick adapter to buy. Unfortunately, all supported ones are hard to get, while they seem to be out-dated. And all newer ones seem to based on other chipsets.
Do you have plans to extend your plugin with other chipsets, like the Asus WL161 one uses?

it s very unhappy ... .. all wifi adaptators in this list are stopped ...they are not manufactured any more ...

if you try to buy one, you are sure that you have one new release ... and no driver linux for it ... ...

...

The Linux drivers are actually compiled by lololuy (see thread New wifi drivers), and I wrote the plugin. I know that Linux support for Wifi USB sticks is quite poor. It just depends on the open source Linux drivers...
