Is there any way that this can be done? tried for a couple of days with no joy.

Yes, use smbfs for best results.
Use the webinterface, and don't forget to create the map : dreambox with submap : movie.
Otherwise it will not be possible to record.

PS.

If you use a 7000 install smbfs first, otherwise it's a no-go
