Suitable Hard Drive for installing in Dreambox 7000S

Would would be the best Hard Drive to get to install in a Dreambox 7000s (specific model number of the HD would be good)?

I have read somewhere that it needs to be a certain speed. If the speed is too fast it takes up too much power.

Also I do not think I have any cables for the installation, where would the best place to get those from? The cable I was referring to was one that is suppose to come with the DB.I think it connects the HD to the power source. I checked my DB box and it was not in there.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Suitable Hard Drive for installing in Dreambox 7000S

I have DM 7000 with a notebook's HDD installed on usb. I fixed the HDD inside the DM and connected it to the external usb slot. It is working perfectly. Better than a CP HDD. It is noiseless wich is not the case of a CP HDD.

You can install the images you need and record at your ease.

Bye

Will a 160GB Hard Drive work in a Dreambox 7000s?

Yes, no problem at all. Try to get one with 5400 rpm instaed of 7200 rpm. Consumes lesser power, thus less heating and more stable DB.

Re: Suitable Hard Drive for installing in Dreambox 7000S

Cheers mate. I have just ordered a 160GB Seagate hard drive. I can not wait to get it in installed.

I got it from a Dreambox store and in the description it stated the following:

160GB calibrated and cool running SG hard drive.

Low noise operation due to the FDB (Fluid Dynamic Bearing) fitted.

Data and mechanical protection in built.

Especially calibrated for Dreamboxes

Are you using a Dreambox 7000s? What hard drive size is in yours?

I have a DB 7000 and 7025. In 7000, I have a 160 GB and in 7025 a 500 GB harddisk. Good luck to you!

Re: Suitable Hard Drive for installing in Dreambox 7000S

I have got the hard drive but the cables that came with it are not right. The IDE cable has the 10th pin in the middle blocked and as a result it does not fit on the Dreambox as the DB has all the pins in place. The power cable I got is the same each end and only fits the back of the Hard Drive.

Where would I be able to get the correct leads? I check my my local PC store tomorrow after work but I think the power lead I need is the same one that would go into a floppy drive but I am not sure if would need a some sort of resistor on it. What is the name of the leads you use on your DB 7000?

Re: Suitable Hard Drive for installing in Dreambox 7000S

I got it working. I managed to find an old cable that used to connect to a floopy drive. I removed a few of the wires I didnt need and I now have power to my hard drive in my Dreambox 7000-s. It has been in there for a few hours now and I have recorded an hour or so of stuff to test it out and the DM or HD hasnt blown up yet :-)

Fingers crossed it will be ok.

Re: Suitable Hard Drive for installing in Dreambox 7000S

I have had a 120 gig, 200 gig, and now I have a 320 gig, in my 7000.
All 7200 rpm drive and they have never given me any trouble.
Right now the 320 gig drive has been in there for almost a year and it has been working flawless.
It does seem to get a little hot but that has never caused any issues in stability or anything.

I am right in saying the hard drive isn't spinning and being used unless you are recording to it or watching something from it?
