Box won't boot

Have had a dreambox for a while and decided to update to Gemini image from an old Hydra. However during root.cramfs manual install, box bombed out while half way through writing to flash.

Now box only gets as far as showing 'dream multimedia' in orange display. Have tried pressing up + down arrows, nothing happens. Will not boot or flash erase. Dream up with null modem cable will not connect, (have removed ethernet cable and unticked network on dream up).

I suspect I am stuffed !

Anyone got any ideas ?

Re: Box won't boot

Check that you have a null modem cable.. I had similar problems andy-uk.. As I was using a normal serial cable assuming it was a null modem.. I think you're ok, and the dream-up should work, as you can see dream multimedia on the tv, display. (this means the boot-up section of the box is ok) Check again if you're using a null modem. And follow the instructions in the newbes section. About unplugging box from the mains after connecting null modem to pc. You should have network unticked... as this is only for ethernet connection from your pc to the dreambox using IPs. You should get the welcoming words too on dream-up "dream box alive" seconds after plugging it in when told to by dream-up. I had your problem also some weeks ago.. I used dream-up universal, (latest version,) and got everything back up and running again thanks to help from others.. Hope something I said here can be of assistance. Best Regards, tore567

Re: Box won't boot

Try removing the power cable. Reinsert the power cable and immediately press the standby button on the dreambox. Now start up using the remote.

Re: Box won't boot

Thanks for the suggestions, will give them a go. I know the cable must be a null modem cable because I used it a year or so ago with success. Good to hear if the boot logo is showing it probably isn't totally wrecked !

Unhappy Re: Box won't boot

Still no joy. Pressed the up button, and the display settings for brightness have reverted to default suggesting something is happening. A three buttoned salute reboots box, but can't use power button to put into standby.

Dreamup won't connect - I know I have the right sort of null modem cable because it worked before. Have tried 2 different pc's. Still won't connect with either pc's com ports. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR !

Thanks tombrate for supplying andy_uk with the link... I was looking for it, but you got there before me... Thanks also to those who came back to help, as I couldn't advise farther.

Re: Box won't boot

Thanks for the link. Does anyone sell the connector as looking at the electronics involved I'm not sure I could make a lead up...
