Setting up a Dreambox in Australia

I am staying in Aus at present on holiday, I have DM7000 in UK and done quite a few installs for mates etc. But I am a Newbie to Australia setups. I have also posted this in the DM500 section but I am sure my problem would apply whatever I had.

Decided to help someone out with a DM500 install over here whilst visiting.
The system comprises of a unflashed DM500 out of the box, I have restrained myself from putting any other images on it at present.

The house had an existing fixed dish on it which using a compass looks like its pointing to Optus B1 160. I have been assured it all worked with the previous foxtel decoder.
It has an AE29 Single LNB which has a noise figure of 0.9db??
Oval dish I reckon about 0.9 to a metre at its widest point.

When I connect the DM500 and do a transponder scan on that satellite or any others around it I get no locks.
I asked in a local store and he strated explaining setting up the LNB to 11.3 in the decoder, but in the simple install menu there is no config for setting up the LNB. I noticed in user config setup there was but I have never had to do any of this in Europe.

Does this dish and LNB work with the DM500.
Is there a signal that I can get a lock on down here level with Melbourne.

Any advice would be aprreciated they only want some free to air channels to add to the 5 they currently get.

Thanks

It is an 11300 lnb and not a Universal which is the default. You can change the LNB setting , Menu , setup , service searching , sat config , select non standard user defined and change the LNB setting.

Thanks for that, I went and had a look and there are 3 places to put readings L of L, L of H in the last one being threshold.
What settings would you recomend.

I found an old universal grundig which now pulls in a bit more, managed to get a lock on Optus C1 flashed Hydra but still only found about 36 channels, none working even with magi, cam3 or rade.
All a bit different to what I am used to Hotbird etc!!.

Just about to start moving the dish around are there any sites or advice you could give on emu's and sats for Aus

Cheers

Joe

I use radegast here and its fine you should be getting over 250 services found on the box.
11300 for all 3 if the LNB has an LO of 11300

Cheers

Ok Alias1, what size dish do you have? and what LNB, have you got a fixed dish or motor setup.

We currently have a fixed systems and have been trying to look at
Optus C1
Optus B1
Optus B3
Intelsat 701

Cant get a lock on any of them except Optus C1 but t hen its really flakey and only with an old UK universal LNB.

I still dont really understand this 11.300 Lnb stuff
In the LNB config of the user defined setup I have
L OF/L, L OF/H and Threshold where do I put the 11.300 and will this change for each Satellite we try.

Why is this not part of the standard fixed dish setup?
Why dont they use universal ones over here?
I am I looking at the wrong satellites should I be aiming at something else?

Cheers

Joe

Excellent, we only have an oval oz sat dish about .9 in size do you reckon it will still pick these up ok. We are in Victoria down south.

I reckon both the LNB's we have are a bit knackered, the history of both are unknown.
If we were to go out and buy a new one are there any that you would recommend down here that are widely available.
Is the foxtel one a low noise 0.3 db job?
Our dish is bigger than 65cm so maybe we just need a new LNB?

If all else fails I will just go and get a new dish and Diseq motor,

Thanks for all your help

Joe
