Help - Basic Network Question

Hello All,

I have just got my box and it has 1.05 beta on it.

I don't have an RS232 cable tonight but I do have a laptop and a LAn cable with a twist.

I think I have set the ip address on the laptop to 198.168.0.1
Sub net 255.255.255.0

and the box to 198.168.0.25 etc.

But I cannot get Dreamup to connect.

Basic question first....

With no lan cable connect should I be able to ping myself on the laptop

with ping 198.168.0.1 ??

I get Destination host unreachable.

(P.S I cannot ping the box either).

Thanks ppp,

Running xp pro on the laptop.

I am just trying to update the 1.05 beta at the moment, using a LAN cable direct with a twist.

The laptop is not connect to the internet.

Thanks for the input, I will check these tonight.

Also, re-reading the instructions, I may not have followed the steps exactly in getting Dreamup to connect.

I was not powering up the box from the mains, but just taking it out of standby.

I will try again tonight (uk time that is.... )

That's Jeff.

Fixed the problem, it was the home made network cable. The twist was incorrect.
