I have posted similiar before but this time I thought I would ask a different question to understand it a bit better.

Optus Aurora cards are also running IRDETO II now. Why can you not purchase an Aurora card and then update the CHIDS to activate the extra channels everyone enjoys?

If anyone could shed some light on this matter, it would be greatly appreciated.

Just trying to understand how it all works.

Because you need a valid PMK in order to generate a correct signature when adding CHID's.

Thanks Husky. It is a little clearer now.

So if I can get a PMK (not revealing sources) Will we be in business and does IR2 use the same method as IR1? (Bar the 4 levels of encryption.)

This is the problem the PMK and HMK can not be read from the V4 card. This makes it extremly hard to add CHID's to the card, but not impossible.

The way they address the card will determine the time frame you have to add the CHID's i.e. how long the signature is valid for.

The signature for commands that address the card using 02 (Prov Group) and 03 (Prov ID) use the PMK and Date. That is why the signature for these commands is ONLY valid for the one day.

The EMK updates address the card using C3 (Hex Serial) and use the HMK to calculate the signature. The signature in this case IS valid till the next EMK update.

sorry just jumping into conclusion I' m in S.A. and we' ve had irdeto 2 running for some time now, writing ch-id's back to the card or erasing the card and living it blank is no big deal, even reactivating the card can be done , I have writen and erased mine a lot of times but sooner or later you'll need a valid key to watch channells.

that's bullshit??

the only key that can be read at the moment is a 16 byte hmk?? and if you check with a buddy you will see that the plain keys you have extracted are the same?? working card or not activated
still returns the same plain keys??????????????????????
