Itgate 100 versus dreambox 7020
TAKEN FROM ANOTHER SITE interesting read:::::::::
My impressions ?
I used DM7000, and then 7020, for several months before having my TGS100. First I had was a prototype. Now I have "serial" version.
Until firmware 2.0.3, TGS100 had stability problems, and some difficulties to properly drive HardDisks.
Now it's greatly better. Using this firmware, this machine is realy stable and efficient. It's hardware capabilities are very good, and the new incoming Remote Control Unit will be welcome ...... ITS HERE NOW
I'm now using TGS100 at home, instead of the DM70x0. The only function that I miss is Time Shift. This is the central point on which developers are currently focusing, and I hope it will be available in a short time.
Considering the actual price (you can find TGS100 for 320 € in some web vendors in Belgium, for instance), this machine is, for me, better than my DM7020. More over, as the 7025 has been released by DMM few months ago, there's no more development for this machine. DMM focus on 7025, so I don't expect any new features for my old 7000 (18 months old) and my 7020 (10 months old)...
And this:
The integrated SHARP tuner is a very good one. Scanning HOTBIRD, for instance, will provide MORE channels than with a DM. This tuner will perfectly works with all symbol rates, whereas some others don't.
Talking about the two smartcard readers, it is true that they are NOT factory activated. Why ? Because, as for ALL LINUX receivers (including DM, Relook...), manufacturer can not do this : "Card reading softwares" are not purely legal softwares as they don't pay taxes to relevant decryption system owners.
That's why you won't find any receiver that can use these smartcard readers without inserting an additionnal piece of software (emu) that you can find on the net.
Alternate firmwares often provide these card reading software already included, or available via download sites. Using such a piece of software, you can use nearly ANY subscription card into the two smartcard readers. This is exactly the same for a DM, except that DM claims its smartcard to be activated as they support DreamCrypt (DM's own crypting system), that is used for about 1 or 2 channel over the world
But try to use any SERIOUS subscription card in a DM, you'll see that it won't work with the factory original firmware.
At home, I use my CSAT / C+ card into smartcard readers without any problem. A lot are using TPS "X" cards the same way.
