Lost Channels

There have been several threads posted about lost channels (ANPL and Odyssey to name two). The general response is that these channels are no longer available and I would accept this but for two niggling problems...

If these channels do not exist then

1. Why do I still get data? ie program info etc ?
2. Why do the TV guides still list these channels ?

My Humax 5400Z box displays an E37 "Service Unknown" error on these channels.

Does anyone have a more plausible explanation for the demise of these channels?
