I use a Pinnacle Studio VCD card and Capture using DiVx or Uncompressed AVI.

Like the previous post said you need a PCI capture card, my card has been replaced with a Studio PCTV Rave. Then the rest is software based with programs such as Virtua Dub or AVI_IO and a codec (e.g Divx4.11)

Try and get a card that can capture above or at least at 352x288 (PAL VCD Specs) and a card that has S-Video, as its much better quality than Composite.

PM me if u need help with settings or anything.

Also if you have the money buy one that can capture 50 frames then you can capture at the fps and the deinterlace... Which gives you a better picture for the same size!

Also at tomshardware there has been a Mpeg4 card released which will take all that cpu usage. Making life faster for slow computers!

Why spend the extra pennies on a capture card ??
Sell your hummy and save your cash
Buy a Nokia DBOX 9200,9500,9600 modded with DVB2000, then download VGrabber
You can rip the Mpeg 2 singal straight down through DBOX 2 PC via the scsi connection
Then just edit and fix the video files and encode to divx
simple !!!

As suggested by Mitsui_Hatchi , the Pinnacle card is a top value for money card that produces good results. It will save directly to .avi or mpeg and at around $200 is a hell of a lot cheaper than buying a Nokia.
