There are decoders & there are decoders & then more

What sort of decoders are required for the Australian environment. I'm mainly asking about the decoders for birds above (or accessable) from Australia.

Do we go Digital or Analogue?

Do we need Coco Dependant or Coco Independant?

Do we really need a 3000.00 gizmo or will an old galaxy box do? ( ok... that one's a little extreme, but I'm trying to strike up a discussion here...)

Well I find the quality of the humax to be well below say A*st*r box. When I recorded to DIVX with the A*st*r box the quality is very crips and clear. The humax is like a baldly encoded VCD! Well maybe not that bad but its not as good!

Humax

I've had a humax 5400 for about 3yrs & it hasn't let me down once.
It's good for logging too.

I just have an adb8776

not so good if you want to go past the normal f*x/Auscr*p/Optarse providers.

Does what it is supposed to though and does it pretty well.
