Question Satellite Receiver for North America

All,

I would like to have suggestions on what satellite receiver might be used in North America. As you may or may not know, in North America they have 110 Voltage meaning that the 220 V power supply in the DM 7000 and 7020 could not be used. I am looking for a box that has the same or more capabilities that the Dreambox has.

Also, I have scanned the Satellite foot prints on SatCo.Dx; any suggestions on what satellite one might want to look at? It seems that the Dish Network has the corner on the market. I went to Best Buy and Circuit City; they both only sell the Dish Network set-up’s with a minimum subscription fee of 50 dollars a month.

I know that there has to be something out there that can receive free-to-air satellite channels in North America and the capability of also receiving encrypted channels if wanted or needed.

I have seen the DM 5620 and the DM 500 which both seem to have dual voltage power supplies. However; they seem to be lacking in functionality compared to the DM 7000 and 7020.

So, I guess that the main question is; is there such a box that gives you the same capabilities or more that currently exist in Europe?

Thanks for your time.

The 7020 and 7000 also work very well here, everything from the skins to the images to firmware has all been adopted to suit our needs. 500/7000/7020 all work 100% here.

On a budget - get the 500. Have the cash? Get the 7020

So, what do you do about the 220V power supply? How do you power the system?

Also what Satellite are you pointed to?

Again, thanks for your time

I'm using 40W Reverse Voltage Converter from RadioShack (273-1411) with my 7020(no harddrive). No problems so far.
I saw a post that you can plug DB directly to 110 w/out adaptor, but I decided not to check that. I inspected power supply board - it seems windings in 2 transformers need to be connected different way for 110v.

Re: Satellite Receiver for North America

Doesn't the DM500 just require 12VDC? If so couldn't you just buy a 12V transformer and plug it in?
