they are much the same in what they can do but topfield will do symbol rates of 45000 which may or more likely may not be of some importance in the future

Why not keep the Humax and get the TF as a second or third STU.

why not keep your 5410,all it needs is a new tuner to handle the new symbol rates, an approx cost of $45.the topfield stb from what ive heard has a weaker tuner, therefore your channel stability during poor whether conditions may be affected.
however purchasing the topfield stb with the internal harddrive, upto 20hrs worth of recording would be a handy thing to have just hope for sunny days.

cheers
chris

it has nothing to do with the tuner the symbol rate is done by the demux chip which cannot be easily changed and would ib fact need a new motherboard so if it happens it would be easier to buy a new box

'' so if it happens''...im with you on that point aaeon.1,we all wait and see what happens after all the set date is only a few months away.Getting back to me original question,m8 theres nothing wrong with the humax 5410 a very nice box,my suggestion to you would be only replace it if your looking for something else with more features and is of a better quality, topfield stb haven't proven themselves in the field yet.

cheers
chris

well as far as the rumour goes i,ll start to worry when they start recalling the uec 642,645 and 660,s (of which there are several tens some say hundreds of thousands in the foxtel distribution)
these boxes cannot do symbol rates over 30000 so dont panic

anxious

I am in the same boat with a humax 5410z and am getting anxious about the launch.

Last year I read that it was due in feb.
In March it was due in April
Now it is May and the lauch is due on the 8th June 2003.
(source http://www.lyngsat.com/launches/index.shtml

Some months ago they were talking about NDS, then it was Irdeto version and now it is the signalling rate.

Surely they will have to test it for a couple of months and then replace all the current legit boxes.

I am going to hang on the the humi until there is no more life. By that time there will be 500 Gig drives in the decoders and they will be cheaper (demand and supply)

There is just too much guessing for now - but it is good to keep aware

There is going to be NO change in the symbol rates!!!

Your Humax Box will be fine for years to come
The story of the symbol rates is just that A STORY !!!!!!!!!!!!!
