LNB skew

Hi all,

I have a question someone may be able to help with,

i have a strong 4800II box and have been playing with 2 LNBs i have. 1 is a universal Ku band and the other is a dual pol C band on a 1.8m solid dish.

i dont have motors (yet) so i have been finding sats with a finder and manually moving the dish. i have noticed that the skew is extreemly important in actually locating a sat and getting a good signal.

the antenna setup screen gives you skew h/v controls, but they seem to do nothing. is this setting only available with the correct setup ie motors?

if i do have to set it up by hand, what is the best overall position for the LNB . i am in Brisbane looking mainly at the north?

Thanks in advance.

hi guys,

I also have a 4800II, but only one Universal LNBF, 90cm dish, oh and a Motek that seems to drive the dish around fine

Unlike Mobihci I find that:
- rotating the LNBF seems to make little difference to the strength of a signal, either on the sat finder or at the receiver
- changing the horiz and/or vert skew number of degrees on the receiver from the default of +45 and -45 degrees a little or a lot seems to make no difference to reception
- however, changing between H and V on the receiver can give good or no signal (for a given freq and stream rate)

this appears somewhat counter-intuitive and different from others who have discussed the skew of the Optus satellites vs others ..... I am in Perth and getting good reception on PAS8, Opt B1,C1,B3 and NSS6 so have been alert but not alarmed

is it worth throwing a bomb in somewhere to disturb the peace just to learn more of what is going on?

The skew settings on the 4800 II are only for use with the "Polorotor" type of adjustable skew feeds (for example the Chaparral Corotor II Plus).
The white pulse connector on the rear panel is the o/p for this type of feed....
