Re: Gemini 2.40 (Dream 7000)

I installed this image in internal flash with VAR moved over to USB memory stick. Install went ok but could not see WIFI plugin available from Blue button. Is this missing for a reason?

So I decided to revert back to trusted Gemini 2.00 image. However, when I did that my box started getting unstable. Image every few seconds attempted to reset itself leaving a blank LCD screen and no other option but to reboot. This kept repeating after reboot etc. Yes I did a flash erase after installing.

So was my flash corrupted??

When I got the LAN connection back again I managed to install Gemini 2.10 and Gemini 2.20 and both those showed same 'crashing' behaviour. Both those images worked fine prior to installing Gemini 2.40.

Next, I did a a full cleanup with DreamUp (Null-Modem cable, erase button 2 or 3 times followed by erase.image (3x) and finally installing DMM Official factory image. That did the trick and box was stable again.

Then I installed Gemini 2.00 and box started crashing again. Using Flashwizard I then tried Gemini 2.10 and Gemini 2.20 and again same problems.

About to give up but then decided to install Gemini 2.40 again and see. Installed without problems and box is rock solid stable.

So, for me, if you install Gemini 2.40 in internal flash then it works great but you will not be able to go back to earlier Gemini images.

Have the Gemini 2.40 developers designed this image like that?

Regards
Azam

p.s. Is WIFI meant to work in Gemini 2.40?

@azamsaghir1:
Please try to delete those terrible EPG Files stored on your Hard-Drive in the root directory (/hdd): epg.dat & epg.dat.md5

The WIFI-Plugin doesn't work on ALL new CVS-Images any more. This is due to a change in the Kernel!

Re: Gemini 2.40 (Dream 7000)

@BillyBlue77

Thanks for that.

Well I tried many different things and thankfully my box is back to normal running Gemini 2.00 in internal flash and WIFI working again.

I do not know what was causing the crashing problems but even in Gemini 2.00 I see those EPG Files stored on the Hard-Drive in the root directory (/hdd): epg.dat & epg.dat.md5. Are those generated by Enigma by default? If so, how do you stop those files being created if you do not use them?

It is a shame about the WIFI being broken on all new CVS-images due to kernel changes. Gemini 2.40 is a very stable image but cannot use it because no WIFI. For many, WIFI is not used but for me it is crucial. I hope they support WIFI in the future otherwise I am forced to stay with Gemini 2.00.

Azam

Re: Gemini 2.40 (Dream 7000)

The cached EPG data stored on HDD was introduced with DMM 1.09 and along with that since Gemini 2.0! The problem is, that these EPG-Cache Files may not be compatible among images based on different CVS-Versions. If you boot with an image, that didn't create the EPG-Files by itself, it leads Enigma to crash directly after booting while it tries to read the (incompatible) EPG Files stored on HDD. Therefore you should always delete those if you switch images. It's a very common problem. In the latest Gemini 2.4 Image you can choose on how to name those EPG-Files (in Blue Panel)!

The WiFi Plugin has to be updatet so that it fits to the latest CVS-Images. It's neither a problem of Gemini nor can we do anything about it. Contact the Developer(s) of the WiFi-Plugin for that purpose. As mentioned before, the latest WiFi-version won't work on any image based on the latest CVS!

If you are planning to install Gemini 2.40 on USB/HDD (Multiboot) it requires a fresh CVS-Image in flash that already supports lzma (squashfs2.2-r2 with lmza compression)! If the Flash-Image doesn't fit, installation fails. You should use FlashWizzard 6.0!

Re: Gemini 2.40 (Dream 7000)

Thanks for the clear explanation and I will bear that in mind in future.

I will contact the developer of the commercial WIFI plugin I use and see if they can update it for Gemini 2.40.

Re: Gemini 2.40 (Dream 7000)

@azamsaghir1

Just to let you know that you ar enot the only one who like to have the wifi working together with kernel 2.6.9. Im running Gemini 2.40 on a DM7020 and would like to have my Dlink DWL-122 adaptor (11b device with Prism chipset) up and running.

Myself Im not a linux guy in any way but Im sure that this is an easy task for someone with the knowlegde of linux compilation.

Many thanks!

Re: Gemini 2.40 (Dream 7000)

Thanks...nice to know I am not the only one!

I contacted the developer of my commercial WIFI plugin who stated that images all work differently and need different ways of installation/configuration and it becomes impossible to keep up to date with all the new 'unofficial' images that are out there. For that reason they have decided to stop and only issue an update of their WIFI plugin when a new 'official' DMM image gets released.

Last official DMM image I recall was released back in March 2005.

I agree with you it should not be too difficult a task for somebody with linux programming skills.

Kind regards
Azam
