Does the emulator emulates only the CAM or does it also emulate the smart card as well? Or maybe the emulator does ignore the emulation of the smart card and does only want to be feed control words to work? I know that the emulators come with the image. Do they come separately? The majority of images are based on linux so I guess there should be the source code available although after searching for a few images (like Hydra?is this open source?) I couldn’t find them. Can someone point me to the source code of an Emulator or maybe an image that contains emulators? I am guessing that by reading the source code I could understand more about how coding systems work.

Some emu emulate both cam and smartcard, some works fine with original card too.
Generally image don't contain any emus and you must install these ones in a secon time, eg connecting DBox through the net, choose wich emu do you want and install it; but (generally) emus dont contain any keys and you must put the appropriate keys in it using an ftp program like dream control center.
I don't know where you can find the source codes of the emus.
