Have I bought a paperweight??

A 5600-s Dreambox. I finally got my DB working through ppp, but only with hydra_zeus 108! which isn't supported any more so no automatic downloads :-(

& I just don't know enough to install everything manually. I've spent hours working on this and I'm gutted I can't get it to work...

Does anyone know what I can do? Have I bought an expensive paperweight?

The DM5600-S is not in production anymore since September 2003; that's about 2 years ago.
Couldn't have been that expensive.....
However your Dreambox got CI slots and with the right Common Interface CAM and a subscription card your DM5600-S will at least work as well as any provider box, if not better!

ALSO...
maybe you should have researched the box and working a little bit more, you may have realised that a Dreambox wasnt for you, nothing bad with this, but theres enough information here to get you by, just have to be bothered to read and "Baby Steps" youll get there.
To many people thought that the dreambox was the way to get free Tv unfortunatly for you and others the reality is its more the Hobbiest box, you havent done anything different to alot of us mate. I used to pull my hair out, but like most I pulled though.
Image creators made it too easy with everything there at the push of 2 buttons.
Now is your "Curve ball" so to speak, do you swing and miss, or Bunt and run its your choice, but before you do either, dont blame the Paperweight, you bought it, it didnt ask you to by it.
Take a deep breath and walk upto the plate, focus on the "ball" (dreambox) and remember its your Friend..
Now Install the latest Image of your choice, goto the Required Thread, and read up on what you need to know, "Emus" for most are downloadable from the Threads and only "nonPublic" ones arnt. heres a tip, when you extract them to your PC they will be in ...
/var
/var/bin
/var/etc
/var/keys
/var/tuxbox/config
etc...
your dreambox has same directories so ftp them into your Dreambox's
/var/bin
/var/etc
/var/keys - you wont get anything for here but config files
/var/tuxbox/config

within your ftp client eg, FLASHFXP when copied to your dreambox, right click on the files theres a "CHMOD" all files in
/var/bin - rule of thumb "755"
all other can stay as 644 or 664 there are some differences but its a start for you.

Good luck, keep your eye on the Ball and dont worry if you swing and Miss, we wont remember you for that, we never do, we only remember the "HITS".

PS remember never use the bat on the dreambox, no matter how frustrated you get.

Davo m8, it's a 5600, not a 5620... So NO network m8.

@TS, I agree with MrBandwidth, although not being up-to-date anymore, it can still be used!

Cheers,

Anakin
