Unhappy Having trouble with Dreamup

Ok, so now I’m AM embarrassed, but I’m also on the edge of despair.

I’m having trouble using Dreamup. I have been following the steps laid out on www.dm7000.de, and my computer just will not connect. This is what happens;

Disconnect power from DB

Connect both null serial cable and LAN cross over cable.

Run Dreamup

Select correct com port

Configure LAN (P.C.= 192.168.0.1 and DB = 192.168.0.24)
These setting work fine on other applications

Select connect

Dreamup then asks me to connect mains power to DB, which I do.

Then Dreamup just sits there………. Doing nothing and still with the “connect to mains power” message showing.

I’ve waited for 10 minutes, but nothing.

Is there something really obvious I’m missing here? (Perhaps my brain)

Interestingly, I’ve tried running Dreamup Lan, and it always came back, “connection failed” when try to flash a file. No idea why, as it says it’s connected on my systray.

Thanks for any help.

You are doing everything correctly. The PC should show "connecting" as soon as you apply power to the Dreambox.

The problem will be in the serial connection.
1) Check that you realy have a null modem cable.
2) Check that you have the correct serial port selected in DreamUp.
3) Check that the serial port is enabled in your BIOS. This point is espeially important for laptop PC's.
4) Come back and let us know how you go after these basic checks.

Cheers
Pat.

- Is your Nullmodem cable really a Nullmodem cable and not a serial cable without the x-over?

- Are you running XP and your COM port is "taken" by another application?

- Have you tried connecting to the box from another PC so see if it works then?

- Have you asked a friend to assist? 4 eyes seem to see more than 2

Please check your setup again and stay

^^^ Thanks guys ^^^^

I will run those checks, although I’ve been over them all day *puts both hands on forehead*

Yes Mr.B, I’m running XP..... I could try changing the setting in the bios though, as there were 2 to choose from.

Don't have another PC handy to try that option. And I have a friend, a Linux guru from Melbourne, but unfortunately it’s all been over the phone as I am 2 hours away.

It states on the packet "Serial Null Modem Cable" so I guess its right. Although I haven't checked the pin outs. This may very well be where the problem lies...... As i've bought a null medem cable and not a null moden block. As its from Dick (take all my money Smith, anything could be in the packet i guess.

And thanks pat911, I am using just an ordinary PC.

I will go do these checks.

Thanks for such prompt help. (It was either this or jump out the window)
