Load the file erase.img several times (5x-6x) with DreamUp into Flash and do every time a manual Flash Erase within DreamUp

Then load the standard factory DM500 image (can use pre-release from 22.12.2004)

Hope it works then

Are you sure you are using the right DreamUp for the DM500?

There is nothing wrong with the root.cramfs method I do it all the time!
Unexperienced people however should start with DreamUp to learn things by doing!
