Unhappy HELP! - Have I killed my DB on the first day!?

Can anyone help me?

I have been messing around with loading images and I have managed to make my DB stop working...

I had IP connectivity but now I do not...

The box starts up and goes to the orange DREAM Multimedia logo on the LCD but nothing else?

Help - I am panicking.....

K

The best to do is to load the img again using dreamUp!
Start the program, then switch on the DB later flash the new img!
IT TAKES ABOUT 10 min to doload the img, but ur box will work agian!

No panic !

Have you tried to connect to the DB with a serial null-modem (crossover) ?

If not, just download Dreamup and flash a nwely downloaded image ...

Thumbs down

Thanks for the quick response guys...

Been trying the null modem cable but not sure if it's working or not and not too sure how to check it either?

Is there any way I can still use the network way - I've got a working ( tested ) crossover cable and an IP address configures on the 10.0.0.x range. When I power up the DB I get a ping response about 5 times then time outs so cannot connect to do anything?

Anything else to suggest except go to PC World ( grrrrr ) tomorrow and get a new null modem cable?

Thanks again,

K

The pinouts for a DB-9 to another DB-9 are there

Pin 2-3
Pin 3-2
Pin 5-5

Thats all that is required. If you have a Ohm meter, then you can check the pins yourself ;-)

When it is in this state you can recover it without using a nullmodem cable, by setting up a PC for network booting. The dreambox will try to get an address using DHCP, then receive an image with TFTP, and mount the filesystem with NFS.

When you have that all working it is possible to boot the image from the network and flash it into the dreambox. I did it too when I had this problem. I have no Windows machine so I cannot run "DreamUpLan" or whatever is the Windows solution to fix this. It worked, I recovered the box.

But when you do have a Windows PC the cable is probably a simpler solution.
