CE-Hard disks for Set-Top-Boxes

Lünen, July 06 2004. Dream Multimedia, the leading manufacturer of Linix-based Set-Top-Boxes, cooperates with Seagate Technology. The worldwide recognised hard disk expert developed special hard disk for Consumer electronics products, which features little starting current and low drives. With this the end user’s insecurity concerning upgrading of Set-Top-Boxes with standard hard disks comes to an end.

Generally such hard disks had an excessive electric power consumption and produced interfering sidetones. Due to the innovative technologie of Seagate the CE-hard disks are almost soundless during operating hardly to hear. On top of that they are optimised for Audio/Video-streaming.

Seagate CE-hard disks give Dream Multimedia the advantage, not to test common hard disks regarding efficiency any longer. These CE-hard disks can be integrated into the Dreambox DM 7000 without any reservation.

Dream will market two types of the CE-hard disks with a capacity of 120 GB and 160 GB by specialist dealers and whole salers. In price they will not be mor expensive than common hard disks.

Dream chair man Tim Ziemann: “We are looking forward to cooperate with Seagate. The CE-hard disks can be integrated into the Dreambox DM 7000 without problems. The low consumption of electricity and the soundless operation will offer an undisturbed TV entertainment.”

Well, I think it is more fair to state that the powersupplies of certain set-top boxes (notably our beloved dreambox) are too weak for their purpose.
Nice for Dream Multimedia that a hard disk with less power consumption appears, but a more reasonable power supply would have avoided the whole mess.
