Picture quality

Hi I have a DB7025 and the picture quality is very poor. Every 3-4 seconds picture detail seems to "go blocky" and turns into little squares, also the blacks are all shaded, ie not uniform in blackness. Overall the image has about the quality of a VCD I would say.
I have installed the latest firmware from DMM.
I have it tuned to ABC on optus D1 and the signal quality and strength are quite high and also the video bit rate is high ie about 5.4mbs
I have tried composite and RGB out.
On comparing the DB7025 to a topfield 3000 side by side there is a markedbly difference in picture quality.
If I stream the service to a PC the picture quality is fine.
My question is does anybody experience the same issue with these units or could there possibly be a fault with the video processing of mine?

Re: Picture quality

what's the

SNR
AGC
BER

of the channel when it occurs?

it should be something like on normal behaviour

SNR 80-90%
AGC 50-60%
BER 0

Re: Picture quality

SNR 96%
AGC 87%
BER 0

So only the AGC or automatic gain control, correct me if I'm wrong all are OK.
So could this be the problem? All channels have similar values.

Re: Picture quality

those values are pretty ok
nothing wrong if you ask me

instead of the latest official DMM use an alternative image
it has always the latest drivers

try for example the Ronaldd image of june 11

http://www.ronaldd.nl/downloads.php

are you just watching FTA channels or do you have a subscrintion on a package? are you using a CI in the 7025? if yes throw the CI away and use a softcam if gives you much better results...

Re: Picture quality

Hi Hemertje. I have tried different images including the one you mentioned and all give similar results. I have also tried a CI module with goldie&silver card, CS as a client also has the same effect using cccam. Mostly it is most noticable on moving objects on the screen ie a news readers dark grey jacket will turn into little square blocks of varing shades when he moves, just as an example. I really am begining to think that there is a fault with the receiver if everbody else seems OK with their picture. Any more ideas?

Have you tried another display?
I have similar problems but it was the framerate dropping when the program is in super-definition very annoying watching a Nascar or f1 race when you can't even see the drivers names in the top scroller... I had to switch to a lower definition / quality channel which makes me angry and go to my dm7020...
Do you have image hopping too or just low quality image?
