Is it worth upgrading to a 7020?

Hi,

I've currently got a db7000 and while its working OK, I cant put a HDD in it (its burnt 2 HDD already).
I found a site in Germany that sells 7020's with a HDD in it and I'm considering upgrading. Though before I go ahead and order I'd like to get some questions answered.

1. Are the images for 7020 "better" than 7000? Any new features?
2. Can I move the /var dir to the HDD (would give me space to install a hell of alot of emu's etc)
3. What are the denefits with the hardware?
4. (Might be a naughty question but) Can I share my Original Cards between the 7000 and 7020 easily? (surely thats OK?)

I'm mostly interested in point 2.

Cheers
Sam.

1. Are the images for 7020 "better" than 7000? not yet Any new features? some in installation of new features but nothing important
2. Can I move the /var dir to the HDD (would give me space to install a hell of alot of emu's etc) yes, but why won't you forget hdd on dream(7000/7020) and use nfs?
3. What are the denefits with the hardware? they announces the better tuner....thats not true and for the moment forget about deliverd network functions.

Hi Raddon,

Thanks for your reply.
I couldnt get /var on NFS working at all. I've tried a number of NFS servers on windows and NFS on Linux (Slackware), no luck.

But am I correct in saying that its then not really worth upgrading?

It would be great to be able to get another CAM in the whole thing though...

the 2 machines are the same...7020 is very reliable and very hard to crash. It does the all same features as the 7000.
I have one, it's great.

why only var...put the whole image on nfs.
my favorite is sfu...very big (230mb) but worth to try.
Kind of tricky to install, but if you need help, just ask.

I have a NFS server that I can save movies to, but I couldnt get flashwizard to work with either of the NFS Servers. And for some reason all the HDD's I put in burns up (not catch fire ofcourse)...

aaah.....you will have luck with sfu, belive me.
guess you have an old nfs like truegrid or sthg else.
it won't work.

have a look at musicbobs explanations:

Quote:
What is required - please read carefully - :

for NFS install, a NFS server is required running on a remote PC.

I tried many NFS servers for Win XP, and found Microsoft's "Services for Unix v.3.5" the best and stable choice ever, and also it's free software, it is possible to download it from Microsoft's home site (approx 220 Mbytes).

DON'T EVEN THINK (I repeat: don't even think!!) to manage it working on crap NFS servers, like "TrueGrid" or similars... they DO NOT absolutely work, because they DON'T support unix attributes and/or symlinks and other unix filesystem specifics.
I found also the "Omni NFS Server v.4.2" working good... but Microsoft's SFU is much more stable.
Please note that MS SFU does not install on Windows XP HOME editions (only XP PRO is supported).
The "Omni Nfs Server" installs also on XP HOME.
:
if one is speaking german, he/she will have a pefekt "howto install sfu".
it's written for DBOX2 but its almost in same way useable for Dreambox.

regards
raddon
