I have a Maxtor 120GB HDD in my Dreambox and the box often freezes when you wake up the HDD from SLEEP mode. This happens usually when you leave the box unattended for a period of time. Overnight for example.

Because my HDD is not noisy in my environment I tend to manually prevent the HDD from going into SLEEP. If you Telnet the following:

/sbin/hdparm -S 250 /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/disc

That keeps the HDD in active/idle state for 5 hours. The whole performance of the box is better in such a state.

I have come to the conclusion that it is better to just keep the HDD running than to stop/start by waking up the HDD and suffering annoying box crashes.

Just make sure you archive the recordings you wish to keep.

Regards
Azam

Re: Hard disk Standby

my standby in davinchi 5.2 has a problem

i installed original image on flash and using flashwizard i added my davinchi on the hard disk.

when the system goes standby, the hardrive turns off and then instantly on again and stays on.

is that because the active image is on the hard drive?
is there any way to keep it to standby? it makes a buzzing noise which pisses me off while watching dvds...
