DM5620 signal and ber problems solved! [capacitor issues]

For those having problems with sudden drops in picture and low signals etc, without any apparent reason. Do check inside your boxes and look for two Wendell 2200 uF/ 10V capacitors. Check for bulging or, in worst case leaking caps. I could have saved my self quite a few hours of dish tweaking, wire checking and LNB debugging had I known about these capacitors. Well I've exchanged them and now the box zaps and receives like brand new .

Remember: if you attempt this, make shure the new capacitors have EXACTLY 2200uF and at least 10V. It doesn't matter if the voltage spec is higher, as this is only a max. value the capacitor handles. But it must NOT be lower! And please do not attempt playing with capacitanse values if you do not know what you are doing.

Anyway here they are! :

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You. Same problem and thanks to you ... Problem solved with two capacitors with 2200uF and 16V. It takes only a few minutes and the work is done. You've done really a good job!

Re: DM5620 signal and ber problems solved! [capacitor issues]

A have always problems with LOW SR channels, and the capacitors looks fine (no bulging/leaking).
1.Is there a possibility that these capacitors are damaged even if they look fine from outside?
2.Can anyone recieve any LOW SR channel (low sr < 5000)?

Re: DM5620 signal and ber problems solved! [capacitor issues]

I just discovered this thread and hope you are guys still around.
I addressed this issue of low SR hannels several times but got no real answer. I have also bought the capacitors but I did not dare to touch the motherboard so far. Though my capacitors also look fine.
I join fati78. Does the replacement help with the low SR channels?

Fati78,
You can try to receive lower than 5000ksym/sec channels with old images based on kernel 2.4.20. (Gemini 1.02 is quite stable though only camd3 works in it, the other emus don't.)

I appreciate any guidance

Re: DM5620 signal and ber problems solved! [capacitor issues]

It seems no-one is interested in this issue. Just for your information I checked the capacitors on the motherboard. First I simply replaced them with new ones. I could see no change in the sensitivity to the low SR channels. Then I removed the capacitors. First the one near the tuner - nothing has changed, high SR channels were stable, with low SR channels no success. Then I removed the other capacitor near the feed panel - I lost pictures on high SR channels too though the signal strength did not change.
Conclusions: at least one of them is essential to keep the channels locked, these capacitors do not help with the sensitivity. It remains bad, no channels below SR 5000ksym/sec.
I can feel I ended up in a dead-end street.

Re: DM5620 signal and ber problems solved! [capacitor issues]

Hello Paul_HU!

Sorry for the late reply.
The only image that i was able to get low SR channelas was Hydra Zeus even with that one sometimes.
I did tryed with the capacitors but no change the low SR channels canot be locked.

There is a new sCSV image in Dreamboxworld, i didnt had time to try it but it is worth a shot.
