I wouldn't know why if you don't play stupid and earth yourself before touching any critical part i.e. COM port (static electricity kills components.... ever heard of that?)

Really ??? Never heared of electricity....
Strange, I have engineering diploma.....

Look, Mr.Bandwith, I respect you but remark like that is not apropriate for me.
Beside, this problem occured in the middle of night, while "static electricity" (aka me) was sleaping.

ps. Malfunction is not coused by static electricity
Hope someone will know what am I speaking.
It is component next to Com port on PCB, like max232c but it is not max...
similar but cannot find it in smd-component shops.

Had you provided the second post info right in the beginning then there was no need for assumptions!

You sure the port is not just "switched off" by software?

Hi,

I understand your words, you are right, sorry.

Yes, I am sure.
LAN is ok, only COM is faulty.
Jtag is ok, also.

In terminal windows nothing comes out when switching on from mains.
Few days before that everything was ok, I tried com, it was fine.

I had similar problem on one dbox2 from friend few years ago, and solved,
but now dont know where to find spare parts.

Looks like I will have to contact Dreammultimedia. It is a problem, box is under warranty, but I will have to send it 1000 km away, pay postage, and have troubles with customs.

I hope I am wrong, but if you have opened the box, warranty not valid any more.

Arrow,I had the same problem, only that it was the motherboards fault.
Suddenly there was no data stream from the rs232 port on my PC,although it would recognize the devises plugged in to it (the dreambox or the UPS or my modem...).I could do nothing about it and so ABIT replaced my motherboard...See if your PC's port is ok...
