boot problem - help please

I am having a boot problem with my 5620
I've read the thread about boot problem in this forum arquive,
but had no luck, it didin't solve my db problem.

What I did;

1) Ran dreamUP to upgrade to official image 1.06.

2) Ran dreamUP again. Selected Erase button (wished I didn't!!) it started fine but at the end (whole blue bar filled) got an error saying flash could not be erased (-4).

3) Pressed flash button, didn't work. No upload possible, didn't get window to select image.

4) Unplugged the db, waited 1 minute. Reboot trying to connect to Dreamup, but dreamup isn't able to connect to db ( get 5600 boot on db and no image on TV).

5) Tried reset and then hold the up arrow key on the DBox until I see 999 message, but got no 999 message...

6) Followed the advice on the forum and waited 24 hours (db unplugged), but still unable to connect dreamup to db.

7) Tried using hyperterminal, I get the menus normally:

--- Device Configuration ---
Power-On Test Devices:
000 Disabled System Memory [RAM]
002 Disabled Ethernet [ENET]
----------------------------
Boot Sources:
001 Enabled Application in Flash [FLASH]
002 Disabled Ethernet [ENET]
local=0.0.0.0 remote=255.255.255.255 hwaddr=0009341e9d0c
003 Disabled Serial Port 1 [S1]
Baud = 9600
----------------------------
Automatic Boot: Enabled
----------------------------
1 - Toggle Power-On Tests
2 - Change a Boot Device
3 - Change IP Addresses
4 - Ping test
5 - Change Baud Rate for S1 Boot
7 - Toggle Automatic Boot
D - Display Configuration
S - Save Changes
0 - Exit Menu and Boot Application
->

8) I can use all the options and they respond ok.

My question is what can I do to re-alive my 5620, i.e. is there anything I can do before goig to extreme measures as using jtag?
Thanks
Athoz

Your bootloader is OK but your Flash seems to be corrupt
Toggle Power-on-tests to ON and save
Then flash erase image several times WITH erasing flash from DreamUp
After that flash factory image
Always earth your unit when flashing!!! Consult http://www.dream-multimedia.com.au if you need to get more info on earthing

J tag is not necessary, your bootloader seems ok. Try enabling serial port, if that helps.

I see what you mean, I missed MrBandwidth's first line while reediting. Sorry ! Don't you have anything better to do these days than pick on somebody's inadvertant mistake ?

Unhappy

Still not working...
Toggled Power-On Tests, but still no answer
when trying to connect through DreamUp

Tried enabling boot device to serial(S1)
now I can't even connect to the box via hyperterminal...

Last msg tru hyperterminal:
""------------------------
Installed RAM: 48 MB
Checking RAM between 0x00000000 and 0x01FFFFFF
Checking RAM between 0xA0000000 and 0xA0FFFFFF
System RAM check complete
Booting from [S1] Serial Port 1...

PLEASE NOTE: You must now...
a. Exit from terminal emulation mode
b. Modify the baud rate of your host session to 115200
c. Transmit a file to the target using kermit
d. Reset the host baud rate to 9600
e. Reenter terminal emulation mode
f. Hit enter to continue
---------------------------""

What is the file ? And more importantly what will it do?
Can I get back to normal hyperterminal msg?

I'm going nuts!!! Help!!!

There was nothing wrong with you bootloader ,as said above!
the box now thinks its a 5600
Try reflash it using serial cable and a factory image

the fact in such cases is that if your IT skills are sufficient you will fix it eventually (provided that you can avoid frustration and don't slam it again the wall, in which case is beyond 'repair').
People that won't be proficent enough to fix it should return it or consult
someone from the above category.
The fact is that things could be easier...
5620 does have a strange behaviour.
I have been twice down the road that the mate describes and all you have to do is keep trying with different COM ports PCs even versions of flashing software. It isn't broken and it doesn't require hardware 'treatment'

P.S. the file that it expects is the linux kernel or something like that
Don't bother uploading an image (even the original) that way. it's useless
Generally these options in the bootloader are for developers.
In bootloader you should just make sure that boot device is 'Flash' and
auto boot in 'On' nothing usefull there

HAPPY NEW YEAR to everybody

Been talking to some IT friends, they explained me how flas works, but they have no experience with dreambox in particular...
My biggest problem is that I get no signal thru dreamup: I click connect, power on the dreambox an nothing happens...

1-Thru hyperterminal I get this message
""
Booting from [FLASH] Application in Flash...
boot magic not ok (1820400) ""

Do you think there's a way to solve this problem with the serial
port, i.e. with hyperterminal?

2-Since I'm asking, I would like tohave more informations about
booting a dreambox.

In the boot menu thru hyperterminal there'e 3 boot devices available.
Flash memory is the conventionnal one.
Does anybody know how to boot with the other 2 devices: ethernet or
serial port.
From What i've seen the serial port mode seems to be only to send
files to the box.
Do you think it's possible to boot the box sharing a folder in the
pc with the content of an image?

Thanks
