Control DB500 with a different remote?

Is it possible to control the DB500 with a different remote control?
(i.e. from another brand)

(I know (and use) LIRC with my pc... and already have a setup file for the remote I wish to use)

The size is OK for me. Worse is the strength of signal from the remote. With samsung I could point the remote to anywhere in the room and the signal went to the box anyway. With dm500 I have to point the remote exactly at the box. Do you have the same problems or are my batteries the problem?

Also it would be very nice if someone could make some button the "Last Channel" button. I really miss switching between two channels while waiting for some program to start...

I found it's the batteries. Changed to a well known brand and no more pointing problems since

With the 500-RC I miss the DVR record and stop buttons (with gemini image and NFS-HDD loaded). When starting some plugins like Jukebox 0.6.2 or Dreamnetcast 1.0, with the 500-RC the volume buttons are not working, because the 7000-RC has them separately.

Please tell us, when you tried the 7000 RC with a DM500 box.
