The DBox2 is the predecessor of the Dreambox! Development was going since year 2000!

The system is virtually the same with images and flash but you can't interchange DBox2 and Dreambox images!
The DBox2 as a bootloader which is integrated into the image; you also need to flash the full 8MB when changeing an image whereby the Dreambox only needs the first 6MB for the OS, the rest are settings!

The Nokia DBox2 is definately the best (my opinion) then the Sagem followed by the Philips. There are many hardware variaties with different Flash types and it has shown that the batch with 2x IntelFlash seems to be the best choice!

so i am looking for a nokia dbox2 i will go with your choice with 2x IntelFlash type then all i need to do is flash the full image 8mb image. a bit scary with the bootloader with the image if the bootloader gets corupt do you have to use a jtag or just reflash with serial

hi there Redeye and co..

I bought myself a Nokia Dbox 2 a year back.
My Dbox2 was also bought via Ebay from a pretty good trader in Austria.

I have been pretty happy with it so far.
The only qualm i do have is all the information etc about it is available from german only sites. There are a few sites out there that are english. But not many.

I think if i was back at the stage of making a decision of what box to buy, i would now buy a Dreambox.. Only for the sake that there is alot more software and support available.

A Nokia Dbox2 using 2x Intel flash chips would be the way to go as i have seen most images available are for 2x Flash chipset box's.
The Sagem i know uses a 1x Intel flash chipset..
Usually a converter is required to convert a 2X image to a 1x image in order to make it compatible.

For a starter though, the Dbox2 is fine. Especially if you get it for the right price.
