Exclamation New Dreambox owners please read this!

Before you even unpack your new toy, please visit this site: http://www.dm7000.de/ and read carefully about flashing your Dreambox with another image.

If you follow the instructions step by step, nothing will go wrong!

Question

Sum sum sum..... MANY people managed to screw the box up and then don't know what to do!
Worst case scenario is when the bootloader gets damaged through power surge or pulling the plug whilst the Flash is unprotected (unfinished flash attempt).
Still it can be fixed but NOT with DreamUp but with a JTAG programmer.

Normal issues like stuffed up image file (CRC error through download failures and corrupted files) can be fixed with DreamUp.

Procedure is to load an "empty" image file to the box, only containing $ FF FF values and then reflash the box with the factory image which restes the box completely to factury status!

The difference between the "slow" and the "fast" flashing mode is fairly simple..... the fast mode is using LAN connection when an IP address can be found thus shuffling data in mbit/s speed to the box rather then kbit/s with the serial cable

hehhe...i know that about the lan....no what ive noticed is sometiems when usin the serial it picks up the lan sometimes not....if you use the ping function does it reasign the ip to a default setting when flashing...then fires it down the lan....tis a bit confusing...hmm and people killin the box....the flash s/w is very easy to use and has a gui that tells you the progress, oh well people have been warned, they arent youre average set top box

About the IP assignment:

Remember that aftermarket firmware does NOT always use standard IP addressing in the Flash's table.
This is actually the reason why many firmware authors recommend to do a Flash erase EVERYTIME you install a new firmware!

You got to live with it until as certain standard is set but it is NOTHING to worry about at all..... sometimes more space is needed here.... sometimes more space is needed there... NP with me

I think it's worth noting that theres a big section in the users manual on using DreamUp - with LOADS of PRETTY PICTURES ... as long as ppl read that it would be very hard to stuff up I imagine.

Dreambox not dreaming anymore......

Hi guys and gals,

Unfortunately I'm one of the moron person's to have stuff up my flashing of the traveller image on the DB.....

Now when I turn on my DB, it does not put anything up on the TV, and the LCD display is stuck on saying "Dream Multimedia".

Just wondering if there is anyone in Brisbane that has the "jtag" set up so as to help me out?

If there is another way that can fix this I would give that a go too if anyone has ideas....

Thanks heaps

I thought I killed mine! but I just followed MrBandwidth and Zee's Info. I turned the box back off let it sit for a bit. Got ready with dream-up making sure I had a network and com cable connected,
Powered the box back up, re-flash the image. Got it back!!!
