The firm BitControl multimedia developped a new MPEG-2 Decoder for the Dreambox:
The bitcontrol® DreamBox Receiver is a supplement to the DreamBox. The DreamBox is a Set Top Box (STB) running under Linux, for further information please visit

Using the bitcontrol® DreamBox Receiver it is possible to transfer the current TV signal (DVB-S) of the DreamBox to a Windows PC over the connected network. On the target PC the user can watch the DreamBox TV program.
The bitcontrol® DreamBox Receiver is a DirectShow® filter for multimedia players, which are capable of loading DirectShow® filters, e.g. Windows Media Player Version 6,9,10.
The receiver was optimized for cooperating with the stated filters, especially the bitcontrol® MPEG-2 Decoder.
The DreamBox can't be controlled using the bitcontrol® DreamBox Receiver. For switching channels an Internet browser with the target-address of the DreamBox is necessary. The bitcontrol® DreamBox Receiver then performs an automatic "reconnect" to the new TV channel after changing the program. This possibly takes a couple of seconds.
Optionally the bitcontrol® DreamBox Receiver can be started as multicast transmitter. Using this feature even more network users can watch the same TV channel. However, these additional viewers do not receive their TV signal from the DreamBox but from the bitcontrol® DreamBox Receiver operating in the multicast mode. This functionality is similar to a multimedia server, which passes on its input video stream.
