Fix Problem Advices

Becouse i block bootloader from my DB lot of times i want to give in this forum some advices for all new & old members that my official agency give to me for solve most of DB problems.

1.You must put again the power cable into DB,if you unplug it after 30 seconds, becouse after this time the condensers inside remove the static electricity.(For fixing this problem, close your DB for 24hours,and then repeat installing the image that you like)

2.Plug first the dish(antenna)cable, scart, and then open the DB.

3.If you propose to upgrade your DB via null modem cable, one of the two machines(PC&DB)must be unplugged from electic power, and then put null modem cable into DB.

4.Don't remove the front cover,if you propose to install hard disk inside the DB.Unscrewing the sides, and pull up the metalic cover.

5.Don't press the remote control buttons too quick, two of them in the same time becouse the DB freezing.

Maybe someone put other advices that i forget in this time.Do it for the members that have no experience.

Thanks
herba71

Thank you very much.
I guess the old RTFMF (Read The F@cken Manual First) can save us from lots of trouble.

Thanks again

Thank you Herba, very useful.

I just would like to add an advice:

If you use images in flash memory, don't put too many stuffs into, leave some space free in /var directory to make sure it will not run out of memory.

On actual dreamboxes, the bootloader area is located immediately after the jffs2 area (/var directory is mounted to jffs2 flash memory area at run-time).

So, if you have /var folder too full, it may be dangerous for the bootloader, its memory area may be partially overwritten/deleted.

Thank you

It would also be advisable to invest in a USB stick so that addons could be saved too. To ensure that you do not run out of memory.

my advice is to use Compact Flash card 256 mb (very cheap at the moment) and to leave 50mb free for addons
hdd is noisy take big power from DB, and no need so big memory
has separately slot inside DB
no power consumming
every time use CF images and you dont need to reflash main image via rs232 cable if there is some software crash, you will have clear image on main flash on every time.
