Conflict between HD & CF on 7000 DB?

Can someone explain to me why I cannot boot my 7000 DB on a Hard Disk and a compact flash at the same time?
It’s OK with a USB stick and a HD. But never yet managed with a compact flash and a HD. Any help please?

As far as I know on Dream 7000S: HD and CF won't work together (at least a few years ago as I tried it).

Re: Conflict between HD & CF on 7000 DB?

In new versions of firmware it's possible to put a CF with an HD but not all CF cards ar compatible with this system.

More info at

(in italian, but i think it's not a real problem!!!)

Re: Conflict between HD & CF on 7000 DB?

Hi,

There are some guys who have tried to get this working.
You'll need a very expensive CF which must support DMA.
Your hdd must be set to slave, CF will be master then.
It seems some guys got it working, but I haven't read a lot about it.

Just search the forums around.

Re: Conflict between HD & CF on 7000 DB?

Thanks all for your answers. At least, now I know that this is a common problem. I have been trying hard to follow the link suggested to me by nonsapreidirti. I know very little Italian but not enough to understand such technical information.
I have been trying to search forums around in the past few months as suggested by Roodkapke to no avail.
I will appreciate if someone who managed to handlle this issue will give details of how it has been managed. Many thanks to all.

Re: Conflict between HD & CF on 7000 DB?

I have a 256 MB SanDisk CF. I just read it could be done, set my HD to slave, inserted the CF in the slot and have been using it without any problems. I did this about 2 weeks ago, with recent images. Never tryed before.

Roodkapke has said , cf has to use controller with dma support. If it will be , is a chance for work.
Check Lexar and SanDisc manufacture of controller and compare with yours.

Re: Conflict between HD & CF on 7000 DB?

Thanks arubinst & Tom0000. I'm realizing how much I need to learn about my DB. Can anyone be more patient to let me know how to set my HD to slave? I bought an expensive 1GB CF manufactured by Dane-Elec and wish to make use of it first. Thanks

Re: Conflict between HD & CF on 7000 DB?

That should be on the harddisk itself.
Near the connector/flatcable there should be a sticker with the info.
If there's nothing there, go to the website of the manufacturer.
