NFS problems

Hi
I have been using the NFS for the last year to use my 370GB harddrive as a main HDD from my Dreambox, suddenly while I was issuing "PORTMAP ADD" command I had a strange Windows error "Cannot create service".

I started digging into registry and services and legacy classed but I had no solution.

Can any one help my

I have

Windows 2000 Prof, SP4
1GB Ram
370 GB HDD
P4 1.44
Gigabyte 800Mhz Motherboard.

I am using Truegrid NFS

I do not know what is this "PORTMAP ADD", but why not to use MS Services for UNIX ? I am using it. It gives me full unix file access to ntfs drive in winxp.

I normally see this when I try to add a new mount in the export file.

The remedy goes something like this (from memory)

in a cmd window type

>NFS stop
>NFS remove
>PORTMAP stop (this may not be required ???)
>PORTMAP remove

change the exports file (make sure the last line has a return after it!)

PORTMAP add
NFS add
NFS start

that should now work.....

Good luck

the "add" functions adds the command in the environmet registry and auto-load the nfs and portmap every time you start Windows. It is not needed, but surely the easiest way to set up a nfs.

The /%windir%/etc files are easily corupted.

run the showmount -e to tell if the /dreambox directory is available to share, and rpcinfo -p to show the protmap and portmap/nfs info:

program vers proto port
100000 2 tcp 111 portmapper
100000 2 udp 111 portmapper
100005 1 udp 626 mountd
100005 1 tcp 629 mountd
100003 2 udp 2049 nfs

TrueGrid NFS and XP

I have the TrueGrid NFS server working fine with Win2k. Now I try to get it working on XP. I start the portmap service .. no problems but when I start the nfs service it shuts down unexpectedly. Anyone else experience this?

I use win2K and nfs from Truegrid, can someone help me?

I have no problems with Truegrid and WinXP Pro (SP1 + all available hotfixes). Working fine here.

@ andreg
Check that the hdd is a valid directory to mount. Maybe you should be use /mnt?

To mount to the dreambox directory /mnt:

Add the windows mnt directory. eg c:\dreambox\mnt
and in telnet type command
mount -t nfs -o wsize=4096,rsize=4096,nolock 192.168.0.1:/dreambox /mnt

Edit: The 56xx doesn't have hdd so it mounts to mnt.
