How to setup vlc on Linux PC

Hi.. this is almost off-topic, so I apologise.

I just can't figure out how to launch the vlc server at a Linux machine.
I just want to be able to watch the movies stored at the Linux (Red Hat) machine, on my
dreambox 7000. I have the last RuDream and it has the vlc client.
The Linux machine also has the server installed.

I just need to launch the vlc on my linux machine with the right parameters (or configuration?) which I can't seem to figure out. I would appreciate any help..

You need to tell vlc on your linux machine to stream to http and then enter that ip in your dreambox vlc.

Start vlc and activate the web interface. If you want to have it running without to start it manually, you can run it in /etc/rc.d/rc.local script with vlc -I http &. This will start a server that can be accessed anytime from your dreambox.
