Site issues 1/11/03

For an 8 hour period yesterday/lastnight, our hosting provider became a target of a Denial of Service attack measured in hundreds of megabits per second of incoming traffic, mostly consisting of extremely short packets. Due to the huge number of spoofed IPs used, tracking and shutting down the source of attack was made even more difficult.
As a consequence of the attack, a table in the SI database became corrupted, leaving the forums totally inaccessible and flooding the admin mailbox with thousands of error emails..
At present all attacks have stopped or been stopped and the database has been repaired.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused but I'm sure you will understand that this was something totally out of our control.

Looks like there are still issues but at present we have no word on what is happening.

Just an update.
There is still some local flooding that may affect some users - should be tidied up soon.
Further info on the main DoS attack itself, here's a quote from our host: "When I say multihundred megabits per second with small packets, I do not mean 100 Mbit of 1500 byte packets. I mean 500Mbit of 64 byte packets directed at different IPs"..

site still very very slow,last couple of days received server to busy try again later then this afternoon full speed and now taking 15 min or more to load a page
