Thanks for the input frecklesnoot. Feedback, good or bad, keeps us informed of what the members do or don't like and want - it is all welcome (within reason of course).
Actually the issue is not one of bandwidth (data transfer), we pay enough to cover that and more.
The problem just of late has been one of server resources - when the site is busy with many active users on at one time, and with all the bells and whistles running, it overloads the server and slows everything down.
We are in the process of moving the site to a dedicated server which should cover us for some time to come - with a bit of luck it will be up and running this week.
The cost of running the site is covered by the advertising banners and we don't anticipate there will be a need to ask the members to contribute. But thanks for asking.

In the past most of the sat chatrooms have been based on the freebie offerings, remotely hosted with user limits and pop-up ads (something you will NOT see at SI) - with this new server on the go, and if the members do want one, we can certainly investigate hosting our own (not IRC).
