motorised dish

Hi! This is my first time here. I've got 90cm dish with motor. I understood that motor moving dish around its axis, but it not changing its elevation.
All satellites are on a different elevations, it's really confusing me, how it works?
Can anybody help?

Re: motorised dish

Have you noticed that the axel which you have fasten you dish at is
tilted. When the axel turns the elevation changes...

The motorized dish turns in 3 axies azmuths, elevation and polarization.
The polarization will also change due to that the sats are alinged verticaly
to the geostationery orbit. The orbit can be seen as a wide arc over the sky
from on horizon to another

So when you install your set up you must be very precise.

Re: motorised dish

most motors come with a user manual and if you look inside the manual u will find a chart.this chart is for settings for the motor angle for were you live so look up your location on the chart and set the motor to that setting all done m8 should work fine.

Dear Stars 2!
I truly appreciated your answer.
Yes, I understood that motor moves dish to find satellite on geostationary orbit above equator with latitude 0. This I achieve by setting up the appropriate angles on motor and dish (elevation) and because I am on the southern hemisphere, I should set up dish towards north (- polarisation). Each satellite moving with the speed of they longitude, from my position it is (azimuth). But one thing still confusing me. LyngSat's SatTracker instructs about two numbers: azimuth and elevation for each satellite. In this case what elevation means?
Many thanks for you time, Regards, Isit

Re: motorised dish

Hi... the elevation is the angel how much your dish is tilted backwards....
(mabye also forward if you are looking for a sat near the horizon)

If you setup your dish towards a sat that lies near or the best on the
longitud there you live, you will directed your dish at the azimuth 0 deg
and set the right elevation on your dish. You will get a clear picture..

(check so that the motor are in the middel of min and max)

Now you are in the middel of the geostationary orbit, from where you live.
The azimuth and elevation, polarisation for the other sat will automatically be right if you have installed your dish correct

The fastening of the motor must be leveled (this is VERY importent) else
you will miss the geostationary orbit when moving the dish around
